Leaving A Subtle Hint
The Chinese phone company Xiaomi has left a huge hint that it plans on coming out with a 108-megapixel camera in the future. On their social media page, the phone company released a picture of a phone that it suggested would take 12,032 by 9,024-pixel pictures. They captioned the image with a “see you later,” making claims this would be happening sometime soon. The company is expected to team up with Samsung to bring the ambitious phone to market as quickly as possible.
A Huge Step Up
The best cameras found on smartphones at the moment go up to 48 megapixels, so it seems like quite the jump for Xiaomi to reach 108 megapixels. Before getting to the 108-megapixel camera, Xiaomiis expecting to launch a phone with a 64-megapixel camera shortly. The first phone with a 64-megapixel camera is expected to be released in India by the end of 2019, so this seems like an achievable goal for Xiaomi.
Not For Every Photo
The 108-megapixel camera is likely to have the ability to take a picture of that quality, but the regular pictures taken will likely be closer to 27-megapixels. If users want to unleash the full 108 megapixels, they will have to change the settings as it will typically need perfect lighting conditions to look good.
Still, this is a hugely ambitious project being undertaken by the Chinese company, and it will get a lot of people interested if they achieve it soon.
