The Real-Life Relationships Of TV Stars

While we may fall in love with many on-screen romances in film and television, the reality is that many of these actors have relationships off-screen, and some may even surprise you.

Peter Dinklage

He is known by millions as Tyrion Lannister on the highly acclaimed series, Game of Thrones, and so Peter Dinklage has been honored for his work with numerous award nominations and wins. With such a big role in one of the biggest series currently filmed, Dinklage has become one of the highest paid actors on television. He has also starred in films such as Death at a Funeral and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, but neither compared to his success on television.

Erica Schmidt

Dinklage may have a very successful career, but he also sustains a very stable personal life outside of his work. The Games of Thrones star is married to Erica Schmidt, a theater director, since 2005. The couple are parents to a daughter, whose name is yet to be made public, and in March 2017, Dinklage and Schmidt announced that they were expecting a second child. While media reports suggest that the couple’s daughter is named Zelig, Dinklage has denied this as truth.

Julie Bowen

Julie Bowen has secured herself huge acting roles since 2000. She starred in Ed from 2000 to 2004 and was then a star on Boston Legal from 2005. Bowen also starred as Sarah Shephard on Lost during that same time, but she has been playing Sarah Dunphy in the ABC sitcom, Modern Family since 2009. This role has won her six consecutive nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress, for which she has won two. Bowen has also had roles in film such as Happy Gilmore and Horrible Bosses.

Scott Phillips

While Julie Bowen may be known to be married to Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy) on Modern Family, she has been married in real-life since 2004. Bowen married real estate investor and software developer, Scott Phillips, on September 9, 2004. The married couple shares three sons. The couple welcomed their first son Oliver in April 2007, and her twins, John and Gustav, were born in May 2009. Bowen was visibly pregnant with her twins while filming the first season pilot for Modern Family.

Ellen Pompeo

Ellen Pompeo won wide recognition when she starred in Brad Silberling’s drama Moonlight Mile in 2002. However, she is best recognized as Dr. Meredith Grey in the medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy which she has starred in since 2005. Starring in one of the most popular series on television led Pompeo to become one of the most popular actresses, and in 2015 and 2016 she was ranked fourth in the highest paid TV actresses by Forbes. Her role also won her Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Drama nomination.

Chris Ivery

Fans of Grey’s Anatomy fell in love with the romance between Grey and McDreamy, and finally got their dream come true when the pair married on-screen. Meanwhile, Pompeo has been happily married off-screen to her real-life husband, Chris Ivery. The couple met in a grocery store in 2003 and began dating after their initial meeting. They married in 2006, with the mayor of New York at the time, Michael Bloomberg, acting as the legal witness of the ceremony. The couple shares three children – Stella, Sienna, and Eli Christopher.

Ty Burrell

Ty Burrell is best-known as the hilariously charming father in Modern Family, but he actually began his career on Broadway. While also starring in several films during his career, his role as Phil Dunphy has won him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series twice, and five Screen Actors Guild Awards. While his character’s career may not be so successful on-screen, Burrell appears as Phil in commercials for National Association of Realtors.

Holly Burrell

Ty Burrell married his wife Holly on August 18, 2000, and after living in New York City and Salt Lake City, the couple moved to Southern California for Burrell’s work on Modern Family. On March 18, 2010, it was announced that the couple had adopted a baby daughter, Frances, and adopted their second daughter, Greta, two years later. While Holly tried her luck at acting, she decided to give up that career and the long hours to become a professional chef, and apparently she can cook up quite the storm in the kitchen.

Jon Cryer

He is the unlucky in love star on the hit series Two and a Half Men, but Jon Cryer has had a very successful acting career since being cast for this role. Away from playing Alan Harper, which he played since 2003, Cryer’s breakthrough role was when played “Duckie” Dale in the film Pretty in Pink in 1986. However, after a string of unsuccessful TV projects, CBS executives cast Cryer for Two and a Half Men since he was a friend of Charlie Sheen, which won him two Primetime Emmy Awards.

Lisa Joyner

Cryer was married to British actress, Sarah Trigger, and the former couple welcomed a son named Charlie Austin. After marrying in 1999, the pair divorced in 2004, and three years later he announced on that he was set to wed once again. In June 2007, Cryer married entertainment reporter Lisa Joyner in Mexico and on September 29, 2009, they adopted a daughter who they named Daisy. Joyner is an adoptee herself, and she hosted the US version of Find My Family, which reunited adoptees with their birth families.

Patrick J. Adams

The talented Canadian actor might be associated with his Suits persona named Mike Ross, but before the USA Network’s show aired, the handsome man had previous appearances on shows such as Friday Night Lights and Commander in Chief. Although Adams was seen engaged in a steamy relationship with actress Meghan Markle on screen, the man has been happily married to fellow actress Troian Bellisario since December 2016, as the two met in the play Equivocation. Adams and Troian have been presented a strong front ever since.

Troian Avery Bellisario

The Pretty Little Liars actress, writer, director and producer is not only incredibly talented as an actress, but she is incredibly smart as well. Aside from playing Spencer Hastings on the show, Troian also appeared in a few episodes of Suits alongside her husband, Patrick J. Adams. Bellisario and Adams did split after meeting on the set of a play, but after Adams’ guest appearance on Pretty Little Liars in 2010, the two decided their romance was worth giving another shot.

Johnny Galecki

Johnny Galecki plays the role of Dr. Leonard Hofstadter in the hit television series, The Big Bang Theory. Many fans may remember him from his time as David Healy on Roseanne, but his current role has sure gained him worldwide recognition since its release in 2007. On the show, fans had watched his romance with Penny blossom, and were enlightened when the pair decided to tie the knot. Just as fans were delighted by their on-screen romance, there was amore delight when their relationship developed off-screen.

Kelli Garner

Johnny Galecki and his on-screen wife, Kaley Cuoco developed a relationship away from the show which lasted two years. While their marriage on the show maintained, Kaley went on to marry Ryan Sweeting, and Galecki started a relationship with Kelli Garner. Johnny and the Pan-Am actress made their relationship public in March 2012, but after over two years together, the actors decided to call it quits. It was reported that they had an amicable split and that the former couple remain best friends.

Nayyar is one of the original cast members on the show and, according to Forbes, he was third on the World’s Highest-Paid TV Actors for 2015 with earnings of $20 million. No surprise since his character remains a prevalent factor amongst his three friends. However, Raj has always had trouble speaking to women unless he has some liquid courage to get him through.

Neha Kapur

It seems as though Kunal has had no problem off-screen with the ladies and is married to the Femina Miss India Universe 2006 winner, Neha Kapur. The couple married in 2011 and lives in Los Angeles. The stunning wife of the star actor is also an established runway model and has been signed to Elite Model Management since April 2003. She has also won a Critic’s Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, which is unsurprising since her character has been a highlight of the show due to her romance with Sheldon. Amy plays Sheldon’s love interest in the show and, throughout the series, fans have hoped for their romance to continue.

Michael Stone

While fans get to watch Bialik and Sheldon’s fascinating relationship on-screen, Bialik has been married off-screen. Before Bialik’s time on The Big Bang Theory, she married Michael Stone. Stone was born into a Mormon family but later converted to Judaism. The couple married on August 31, 2003, in a Victorian-themed ceremony and went on to have two children together – Miles who was born in 2005 and Frederick born in 2008. The highly successful actress was once linked to her co-star Johnny Galecki but was later married to Ryan Sweeting. Less than two years after they married, the couple divorced.

Karl Cook

While many fans of The Big Bang Theory would have liked for Kaley and her on-screen husband, Johnny Galecki, to have sustained a relationship off-screen, the couple broke off their romance in 2009. Since 2015, and following her divorce from Sweeting, Kaley has been dating equestrian Karl Cook, although her divorce only became finalized May 2016. On November 30, 2017, the couple became engaged, and this date also marked Kaley’s 32nd birthday. It is a birthday that will well and truly be remembered for years to come!
